Jordan Ahli Bank recently sponsored the “Laila Baqili” conference, held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ziad Fariz, Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, in partnership with Hivos, and organized by the Sisterhood is Global Institute.
The conference, which highlighted the progress of women leaders in the banking and financial sector, included workshops aimed at identifying the needs and aspirations of working Jordanian women in order to find solutions to the challenges that stand in the way of their careers.
Commenting on the sponsorship, Deputy CEO/ General Manager of Jordan Ahli Bank, Dr. Ahmad Alhussein said the bank’s interest in sponsoring this conference is part of its continuous effort to support women in Jordan. This desire stems from the bank’s corporate social responsibility, which encourages the empowerment of women socially and economically to enhance their status in society. Hussein pointed out women make up more than 40 percent of the bank’s employees, and the bank has always been eager to provide the necessary tools to help women actively participate in leading change.
Jordan Ahli Bank helped plan the conference through its Nashmiat initiative, which supports women’s entrepreneurship, thereby contributing to local businesses and the national economy. The bank also presented awards to a number of pioneering Jordanian women, including a group of employees from Jordan Ahli Bank.
The awards were inspired by an ancient coin, currently on display at Jordan Ahli Bank’s Numismatic Museum, which symbolizes gender equality in the Nabatean society.
